Update from the Eves
The Eves are women from Monaca and Aliquippa First UMCs who meet in the evenings. This group, led by Kathy Glovier, was formed especially to accommodate women who are unavailable during the day; however, all women are welcome to join at any time. The Eves gather on the first Wednesday of each month at 6:30pm, with the meeting location alternating between the two churches.
The Eves thank everyone for supporting the group’s early endeavors. On Saturday, October 19th, a Sock Hop was held, featuring the music of the ’60s and ’70s. Admission was a pair or package of new socks. Participants had lots of fun listening to the music, eating great food, and doing dances like the Twist, the Hokey-Pokey, and the Limbo. Through the event, the group collected 171 pairs of socks, as well as $75, to be distributed to the men’s and women’s shelters next month.
In November, the Eves packed 30 mugs with soups, teas, and sweets to sell at New Horizon School’s Santa Shop, with proceeds to be donated to the school library. The December activity will be a bake-a-thon at Aliquippa First, making cookies to give to area First Responders.
One activity planned for 2025 is a cookbook fundraiser. As you go about your baking and meal planning over the holidays, please consider setting aside your favorite recipes for inclusion. Recipes in memory of a loved one and special stories would be appreciated as well. Look for details in the coming months!
