Thank you, Kay!
Kay Carrier recently retired as Council Secretary and Membership Secretary at Monaca UMC. In addition to these most recent roles, Kay has worn many hats at MUMC since joining the church in 2003.
Council Chair Mike McCullough shared a few remarks in recognition of Kay at the beginning of worship on Sunday, August 21st. The celebration and thanks continued after worship with a luncheon, where Kay shared some parting words, and Pastor Jim Sands and Betsylynn Majzlik presented her with a card and gift on behalf of the congregation.
Here are some photos from the celebration:
During his remarks, Mike McCullough included the following highlights from Kay’s volunteer history with the church:
Kay sang in the choir, and when Pastor George & Sandy Dran retired in 2005, Sandy had asked Kay if she would serve as our Choir Director. She agreed and served in that role for more than 10 years. In addition to directing the choir, Kay planned and scheduled all of the special music for the summer months, when the choir was on break.
Kay served as the Recording Secretary for Administrative Council (now Executive Council) and was the church’s Membership Secretary as well. In addition, she was always unanimously elected to take the minutes for our Charge Conferences.
When a committee was established for the planning and construction of the Carey Community Center, Kay recorded all of the minutes for those meetings, which took place over a number of years.
Kay’s gifts don’t end with her musical talents and secretarial skills. Bea Bickerstaff, a dear friend of Kay’s, involved Kay in planning everything that was needed for any of the church dinners. After Bea passed away, Kay took over organizing and preparing the meals for the funeral dinners and fundraising dinners held at the church.
We thank Kay for her dedication and love for the people and the ministries of Monaca UMC. We will miss Kay’s participation in church leadership, and look forward to her continued involvement as a congregation member.
