Community Unites to Stamp Out Hunger®
On Saturday, May 11th the letter carriers of Monaca Post Office participated in the national Stamp Out Hunger® Food Drive, collecting food donations from throughout the 15061 zip code as they delivered mail for the day.
The food pantry at Monaca UMC, which relies on monetary and food donations to serve approximately 35 families each month, had been feeling the pinch of rising food costs and struggling to keep food on the shelves. However, with the combination of our local letter carriers, generous residents, and supportive congregation, our food pantry now has four truckloads of food to distribute!
Food Pantry Co-Manager Vicki Kane stated, “It was a lot of work to sort all that food, but I am happy to say that our shelves are once again full.”
Fourteen volunteers gave up a Saturday afternoon to get the donated food ready to go back into the community. Vicki thanks the volunteers on behalf of the food pantry team, noting, “Each and every one is truly a blessing!!”
Thanks to everyone who donated food and who came to help. We also appreciate the wonderful folks from the Monaca Post Office for organizing this food drive once again this year, and allowing our food pantry to benefit!
Be sure to save the date for next year’s Stamp Out Hunger® Food Drive, scheduled for Saturday, May 10, 2025!
